IGC is an inclusive service-driven membership club. Our purpose is to bring like-minded local garden enthusiasts together and increase gardening knowledge through education and exploration. With a mission to conserve the local area's natural resources.

 

IGC Community Projects Include:

  • Douglas Park: planting and maintaining landscape beds with the intent to cultivate Florida Native Plants

  • Barrier Island Center- Friends of BIC funding and maintaining native plants, trails, and volunteer support where needed

  • Brevard County EEL program Hog Point Sanctuary- Educational and Experimental Project in conjunction with Conradina Chapter Florida Native Plant Society

  • Joy’s Memorial Garden South Beach Community Center

IGC general meetings consist of lunch provided by designated hostesses, an informative meeting, and a guest speaker presentation focusing on topics and resources related to our local area. The club also enjoys hands-on activities and field trips. We share tips and events in our Facebook Group. Guests and prospective members are encouraged to attend a meeting and enjoy the fellowship of like-minded gardeners. Please contact a club representative in advance to assure proper headcount for the luncheon. Use the “contact IGC” button or join our Facebook group.

Island Garden Club Program Schedule 2023/ 2024

  • September 13 2023

    12:00 pm IGC will kick off our 2023/2024 program year with a welcome back brown bag lunch and plant swap. Refreshments are provided by the hostess. We’ll catch up on fellow members’ summer adventures and gardening exploits.

  • October 11 2023

    10:00 a.m. IGC members will meet at the Sebastian Inlet Bayside Marina for a kayak excursion in the backwater of the Indian River Lagoon. A great opportunity to experience Native plants, wildlife, and birding. Kayak rental fees apply. RSVP required.

  • November 8 2023

    9:00 a.m. IGC members and friends will meet at the Barrier Island Sanctuary for a work/clean-up day. The IGC has helped plant and maintain the Native Gardens as an ongoing project. Excellent opportunity to learn firsthand about Native Coastal Plants. Brown Bag Lunch.

Island Garden Club Program Schedule 2023/2024

  • December 13 2023

    11:00 am IGC will meet at member Julia Hill’s home for our annual Holiday Gathering. We will enjoy a festive brunch and fun gift exchange. The club also collects items for the Women’s Shelter (women’s items as well as small household items). RSVP to Julia by December 6th.

  • January 10 2024

    10:00 am IGC will meet at the Merrit Island Bird Sanctuary for a tour bus ride through the sanctuary. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is a 140,000-acre U.S. National Wildlife Refuge on the Atlantic coast of Florida's largest barrier island. Limited Space RSVP required by Jan 12.

  • February 14 2024

    12:00 pm Join IGC for a romantic afternoon Valentine’s Tea and card-making activity. Don’t forget your hat and tea party attire. RSVP to ensure adequate luncheon items.

Island Garden Club Program Schedule 2022/2023

  • March 13 2024

    IGC will tour the Mckee Botanical Gardens located in Vero Beach. Plan on arriving at 10:00 a.m. and spending a few hours touring and enjoying a boxed lunch provided by the Garden Cafe. The garden is a truly unique experience combining Florida Subtropical Plantings and creative garden sculpture. The Tropical Flock of Avian Avatars will be exhibited throughout the garden. March 6 RSVP is required. Admission and lunch fee applies.

  • April 10 2024

    12:00 p.m. IGC will meet at the Town of Melbourne Beach Community Center for a Butterfly Garden Workshop. Guest speaker Ed Perry will present on building a garden and landscape to nurture butterflies. Lunch is provided by member hostesses. RSVP required.

  • May 8 2024

    IGC will conclude our program schedule with a “bring your own lunch” gathering hosted by member Beth Glover in her lovely Floridana Tropicals Nursery. Beth is a wonderful source of knowledge and specializes in hard-to-find coastal species grown from seed. The nursery is located in Floridana.
