A Letter of Introduction

A warm welcome to the Melbourne Garden Club website.  If you enjoy gardening or just have an interest in plants, flowers, floral design, wildlife and the environment, come and join the Melbourne Garden Club.   Our membership is composed of men and women of all ages.

Melbourne Garden Club (MGC) is a civic organization organized in 1927 and certified member of Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) in 1932.

The Melbourne Garden Club supports many projects in our community. Over the years, we have landscaped the many areas of the City of Melbourne including the Blue Star Memorial Markers along US Hwy 1, Welcome to Melbourne signs, Mead Butterfly Park, and the Melbourne Military Memorial Park. We also support community-based beautification projects including: Habitat for Humanity with a garden basket filled with gardening tools and information for each new homeowner in the Melbourne area; FIT’s environmental scholarships, Keep Brevard Beautiful, and the Nature Conservancy. We partnered with the Town of Melbourne Village’s Beautification Committee in planting wildflower gardens, we have worked with the City of Melbourne on beautification projects in downtown Eau Gallie and we have hosted and provided trees for the City of Melbourne’s Arbor Day. We annually support local youth attending the FFGC’s Wekiva Youth Camp and the FFGC’s S.E.E.K. Program (Save the Earth’s Environment through Knowledge).

This past year Melbourne Garden Club donated to FFGC’s Wekiva Youth Camp; to the Marine Resources Council’s Lagoon Castaway Camp, to the Brevard Zoo’s – Zoo Camp and to the Keep Brevard Beautiful’s “Lagoon Friendly Yard ” program .  We teamed with Brevard Zoo’s “Restore-Our-Shores” Program conducting Adopt-a-Mangrove workshops on a quarterly basis and contributed to Nana’s House, Inc. as our holiday gift.

Annually we show our appreciation to the Eau Gallie Library for providing a wonderful meeting place not only for our meetings but also for our quarterly workshops.  This past year we donated two books authored by Doug Tallamy (“Bringing Nature Home” and “The Living Landscape”) and $50 designated for children’s resources on environment, gardening and nature.

Check out the Melbourne Garden Club and help us to accomplish  our purpose of stimulating a love and knowledge of gardening; continuing to study and aid in the protection of native plant and wildlife; and encouraging city and county beautification though all available agencies.

Sincerely,
Members of the Melbourne Garden Club
