President’s Message:
Welcome to the new season of Island Garden Club. Few things boost our well being like relationships and gardening. This season promises to be full of learning and service opportunities mixed with fun projects showcasing our mission and goals.
Gardening is one of the best ways to connect strangers and quickly become friends “Because we have the gardening thing in common”.
IGC is an open and inclusive club bonded through gardening friendships and dedication to service. As the saying goes “many hands make short work”. We encourage members to invite “new comers” as well as old friends looking to ignite their gardening spirit to monthly meetings. The club’s initiatives will continue supporting local community service projects focusing on our objectives: beautification, bettering horticultural practices and conservation of natural resources.
The officers and planning committee put together a program calendar to suit everyone’s passion whether gardening a large plot or small patio. 1st VP Jan Shaffer has master minded a program theme based on: Garden Design – functionality, usability and improving layout while incorporating new and existing resources.
Programs will include hands on learning, exploring local garden resources as well as touring private gardens for inspiration.
Our community service will continue supporting:
- Douglas Park Indialantic: maintaining the native garden and beautification
- KBB “Adopt a Shore” beach clean up (Town of Melbourne Beach/Idialantic)
- Joy’s Memorial Garden (South Beach Community Center)
- Friend’s of Barrier Island Center: continuing the KBB-FFL Grant pursuits with Conradina Chapter FNPS and sustaining on going projects.
We’re better together when we share our experiences gardening and in service to the community.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve,
Julia Hill
